The goal of the Ajax Animator project is “...to create a fully standards-based, online, collaborative, web-based animation suite.” To add to the Collaboration aspect of the project, is a new ability to embed it as a Google Wave gadget to have real time multiuser animation editing. It enables a simple way for many people to watch and play animations, and also contribute either directly or by cloning the animation and improving it separately. The UI has been redesigned to be more original, intuitive, and use less screen estate.
Some other new features include the ability to select multiple objects at the same time and set fill/stroke opacity, due to a new graphics editor (which improves IE support by rendering with RaphaelJS) which implements most of the old features (this component is also open source, under the more liberal MIT license and can be found at http://code.google.com/p/jsvectoreditor/ ). VectorEditor also has improved line editing, so stick figures are now far easier.
Also, the timeline has been improved with support for deleting keyframes and tweens. There is now a few more keyboard shortcuts, a canvas context menu. Layer visibility can now be set, to hide other frames. It is also now possible to see the frames on other layers from the canvas, so you no longer have to guess where shapes are previously to position them.
Also, is that the application can publish the animation to a URL where it can be shared without sending the entire animation source files. Overall, there are many UI tweaks, a few features, more built-in plugins, and it makes a great first release of the year.
