i don't know about ubuntu, but i don't have them installed, and i came
across the missing font problem on sites i've visited.
there's no way of loading them by code (even if they were installed).
you can check if they are installed, though, and use a different one
if not. if you want to guarantee that a font is available to the SWF,
you will have to embed it into your SWF. swfmill is one way to do it.
