If you aren't sure whether or not you'll see this through, it might be helpful to everyone else if you use the osflash wiki to document your findings. That way someone can pick up where you left off.

There is some work going on in the community with regards to an AS3
compiler. The bytecode is being reverse engineered slowly, but we'll
try to pick up the pace a little bit this evening when Mark and I plan
to get together and thrash out a reverse engineering session. Anyone is
welcome to join I guess, just give us a shout.
Once the we've got at least a good portion of the bytecode down we'll
start looking at the parser grammar (although I guess they could be done
in parallel). Fortunately I was playing with autotools + bison/flex not
so long ago, so it's relatively fresh in memory.
We'll see. There are no guarantees for any of this. We may decide it's
too much work and give up .. or we might actually manage to produce an
AS3 compiler. One thing is for sure .. it's going to be a learning
process ;-)
