let me tell you about the idea we had..
(some people on this list already know)

we invite developers and designers (international and local) to a
one-week pre-conference workshop. we rent a mansion or similar
somewhere at the beach, where participants can stay. we will equip
that place with a satellite internet connection. apart from having a
lot of fun, the participants can work on some projects, new ones (jam
session) or existing ones, and present the results either at the
conference that takes place right after the workshop, or live from the
beach via breeze or something.

the main issue is financing. all that costs a lot of money:
transportation, accomodation, rent (workshop and conference venues),
internet connection, translators (conference), marketing etc etc etc..
so we need to find sponsors. sponsors won't be very interested in a
small event where geeks gather to have fun, so we'd probably need to
make the conference an international, reasonably sized one.
