And not to forget Adobe anounced that the AS3/Flex2-compiler will be free
and the discision if the compiler will be open source isn't made yet if I
remember right.

here is how i see it. currently the new swf format spec is not availible and
the compiler is being given away for free by adobe. so not only is it not
possible without major reverse engineering effort at the moment, but there
will be an innertia.
i understand why you would want an os compiler, but i don't think it will
happen soon.
