The MXMLC compiler (the Flex 2 / ActionScript 3 compiler from Adobe) 
will be *free*.  It's not open-source, but you can keep the same style 
workflow with the Flex 2 SDK that is available on labs.  Even after Flex 
2 comes out of beta, the compiler will still be freely available.
