This is interesting:

http://www.kaourantin.net/2006/10/extending-reach-of-flash-player-on.html
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flash_Player:Additional_Interface_Support_for_Linux

Adobe is opening up an API such that end users can write their own dynamic
libraries which will be loaded by the flash plugin, in order to provide
support for:
* Sound
* HTTPS/SSL
* Internationalization (?)

They are providing a sample file which uses OSS, OpenSSL, and ICU. I think
they want it such that other devlopers can add support for other libraries?
Either way, any more openness is good news for us!
