VRAM is only really used by 3D apps on Windows (beyond one or two
screen buffers). Four 1600x1200 24bpp screens fits in less than 32mb.

On OS X, extra VRAM helps because it's used for window backing stores
too, because the whole UI is accelerated. However, 64mb is still more
than adequate for just about anything, especially 2D.

It helps to be able to test things in Safari and such, and some people
make good use of having a real shell and unix tools (cygwin definitely
doesn't count).
