Sorry for jumping late on the bandwagon on this one -- I was at  
BarCampLondon over the weekend (definitely attend a BarCamp if you  
find one in your area -- they rock!)

So blog or planet or both?

I would go with planet (aggregator) as many people already have their  
own blogs (or can easily make them) and will probably not also post  
in another blog (I know this from experience, both with myself and  
others.)

With regards to design/layout -- the best thing to do at the moment  
is to not worry about that as we are already working on a new version  
of the site that will include SVN, etc. Of course, this is one more  
thing to integrate to the unified design/login but we can add this to  
the list.
