In firefox I get an IOError and it doesn't even appear to send a request out (checking in charles http capture), so for now I'm figuring out IE, are there some pointers for firefox fixes?

I know how you feel ...
But you should try and stay on it - most of the problems can be worked out. For example, getting more than the basic upload to work in Firefox can be a pain, but is definitely doable nonetheless.
good luck,

For some reason that may or may not be known to the engineer that implemented file upload in fp8, the upload is done in a separate session from the rest of the communication with the server. Thus, you don't can't just store the info in a session variable on the server without any extra work.
