I dont think so. I think people (on all sides) are saying intelligent things
and speaking politely. I dont consider discussing issues, even in
disagreement, to be a flame and I do wish people would stop saying that all
disagreements are flames.

which reminds me of the classic emacs v vi debate.

No it was not. Its right there for you to read. The question was about the
perspective of the authors of Pragmatic Programmer who specifically suggest
that everyone should use one editor and they suggest emacs. The original
question was, in part, whether switching to emacs for all editing was a good
idea. Its even in the title of the thread!!!!
And wasn't eclipse designed to be a customizable editor for use with
> multiple languages (not just java).
Yes. but it is best at Java. There are things that the JDT does that none of
the editor plugins in other languages do. Thats why its a perfect example of
not using the same editor for everything.
Isn't that one of the main reasons it was chosen to be the basis for the

Yes, but the flex actionscript editor is not *nearly* as good as the eclipse
JDT.
Emacs is similar with it's customizable editing modes.
So it seems we are all in agreement that it is nice to use the same editor
> for different languages.
Nope, again, check the thread out. You will see that we are not all in
agreement on this.

Hank
