So, is there any Topas user around?

On a serious note, I'm not sure there's a Collada exporter for Lightwave and I think also for Cinema4D so maybe your workflow needs to be different.

I am using Lightwave 7.0- but I just bought Lightwave 8. I have been using Lightwave since version 5.

People who use 3ds and people who use LWO are supposed to be sworn enemies - but I have already tried to open up a small truce between us. I sent John a single LWO as a sacrificial offering - from a lightwave user (me).

I am sure John not only sent my file straight to the recycling bin, but I am sure he also immediately right clicked and selected "empty trash".

      AM I RIGHT JOHN?????????

If I am right - this is basically what happens between LWO and 3DS users.

Maybe theres a small glimpse of hope in the future that the two formats will live togther in peace.
Imagine - papervision - finally marrying Lightwave objects with 3ds objects....this could end this cold war - and take down the wall forever.

      Best Regards

Ok sorry I overreacted....Don't dump anything please I was just kidding Collada is a nice little file ...prob not as nice as ASE is to me now because it's the only file I can make (other than md2)

I don't think we should dump Ase at all, and we have to get in the 3DS, OBJ and MD2 parsers, so people can reuse old models.

But future developments are going to be focused on Collada as it's much better for creating new content.

Not to mention you can edit your Collada files with your 3D program, open the models in Photoshop CS3 Extended and edit their textures, drop the scene in the stage of Flash CS3 and it just works and also embed the 3D assets in compressed SWFs.

21st century technology, as Keith Peters would say.

Hello folks. I have been devising various pipelines
for about two months now in PV3D and very early on
realized i has to drop the ASE format due to bugginess
(where they were occurring i am not sure..at export or
import). The DAE format as generated by Blender has
never given me any issues. This may be due to my using
the Mac OS X version of Blender.. I use Cinema 4D to
model and texture, lay out my UV's in BodyPaint 3D,
and export as a .3ds file. I then open my .3ds file in
Blender and do nothing to it.. I simply export it as a
.dae file. It already has the UV and texturing info
imported from the C4D generated .3DS file. It then
consistently loads and textures with no problems. When
it did not show it was due to my not having
                  triangulalted the mesh..

My opinion.. Forget the ASE import and get used to
Collada. Once you have the pipelne working you (at
                  least I don't) won't have any problems.

BTW. Maxon has a demo of Cinema 4D
                  http://www.maxon.net
Far more stable than Max, Much more intuitive for
beginner to intermediate level modellers than Maya,
ability to keep several scenes open and cut and paste
between them and if you get BodyPaint 3D you get the
full base app to model and texture in. The best SDK in
3Dland is also a part of the package, as well as free
tech support and no maintenance costs.

                  Best Regards

Atlanta Georgia ( any PV3D'ers in the area then drop
me a line and we can have beers or coffee and yak it up)
