[Papervision3D] howto roll a sphere?

Hi pv3d group, my first post after many months as a lurker...
I'm looking for a few pointers on rolling a sphere... I want to roll a
soccer ball around a field (with the pattern moving correctly)
The speed of rotation based on the speed of the ball moving (this bit's fine
a simple conversion to angular velocity)
When the ball hits a wall it will then bounce off the wall and continue.
I've tried the pitch, roll and yaw commands though they I believe are local
to the object basically I'm looking for a way to a) determine and set an
arbitrary rotation axis, then rotate the object about that axis by a set
amount... then being able to do that again to the object no matter what its
rotation... e.g. just like a billiard ball.
