[Papervision3D] Q:relationship of material size to displayobject3d size

One thing that puzzles me when creating materials for 3d objects is how to determine the correct size(pixel dimensions) of the material, whether it's a bitmap or a dynamically created Movieclip.
ie when creating a DisplayObject3D, for instance lets say a cube of size 200, isn't this simply a relative value and have no meaning outside of the cube's relationship to the current camera settings (z position, focus and zoom settings)?
If I want the optimum quality for a bitmap or video when used as a material, do I simply need to ensure that the rendered dimensions (in pixels)of my display object match those of my original bitmap/video asset?
