[Papervision3D] blender export: collada vs as3

hello;

I understand that there exists a blender --> .as3 exporter ( I have yet to
try it );

at first glance it would seem to suggest that Blender --> collada is
irrelevant now ( that is, when pv3d is the final goal );

but yet it appears that  Blender --> collada is still very actively used (
including me ); why?


any thoughts?
