<div>Hi Nambew,</div>
<div>The patterns you select to use will often just 'grow' from you're planning of the architecture. Most often they will start to appear almost on their own, and when you recognize them, it provides clear direction on how you must proceed next. It is much like a painter, who begins with broad strokes, then begins to recognize forms on the canvass, at which point he begins to build them out using his familliar brushes.
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>One thing you might try is the 'mind-map' technique. I saw someone on the mailing list was using this..(Henrik I think?). This is a way of planning a project in a very loose fashion.</div>
<div>Some things are very important in the planning/mapping stage:</div>
<div>-work quickly on paper, don't restrict any ideas</div>
<div>-don't feel bound to a strict UML map! These are notes for YOU, so you should do them in whatever way makes sense for YOU (like for me, I often draw little pictures) Later you can always make strict UML.</div>
<div>-the concept of programming to interfaces is very important here. Don't think code now, think process, event flow</div>
<div>-make some use-case scenarios</div>
<div>-you must figure out what parts of your application will vary, and what will stay the same (as best as you can, I don't think it is ever possible to completely anticipate this)</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Some process ideas:</div>
<div>-try to work in bursts of 30 mins with small breaks (creativity is well-documented to be a series of converge/diverge moments)</div>
<div>-do some crazy things! Our brains take notice of what is odd or unusual. When that happens, the brain will keep cranking away at it even when we are sleeping (this is science-fact). At my work, I have seen guys writing down object descriptions as fast as possible on little colored papers, then sticking them to the wall. Sometimes the wall gets very full!
</div>
<div>-when you have a flash of illumination, write it down immediately! If we don't our minds are less-inclined to work hard the next time</div>
<div>-classical music, or jazz can be helpful (anything without words)</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Some different style books:</div>
<div>-"The Pragmatic Programmer" by Andrew Hunt, David Thomas</div>
<div>-"The Object-Oriented Thought Process" by Matt Weisfeld</div>
<div>In the early stages, the OOP principles are more important than the patterns...the patterns will begin to reveal themselves naturaly.</div>
<div>I really hope this is helpful, and I understood your email correctly.</div>
<div>Can anyone add some more ideas?</div><span class="sg">
