We can all but hope, huh? ;-)

Well, I don't ;) I think he came off with the answer off the top of his
head. He's a busy guy and unless something is Really important to his
work, he tends to not give it much thought IMHO. But since he made the
comment, I still give the benefit of the doubt since he undoubtedly
knows a thing or two about what we're discussing.

Out of curiosity John, how do you think Nicolas was expecting all this
to work together???

Well, Luke and I talked about this on Wednesday and we seem to think
that the only feasible and efficient way of doing this is to have Haxe
compile to Java byte code. Otherwise we are going to have to do
something like Haxe->JavaScript->Rhino->Java.

Having Haxe be able to create Java byte code would be a really good
thing for the language though, as this will definitely increase the
number of places one could use and deploy it.

Thoughts?

Hey Lee, let me talk with Luke about this and see what can be done. We
would probably need to do a call with him to talk about what it would
take. From Luke's other email, he seemed to have a scheme in mind, but
from Nicolas' reply, I'm not sure they're thinking the same things.

Thanks for heading this up Lee!

I sent an email to Nicolas saying the following

 Hi Nicolas,

The reason I ask mainly is because I've put the idea past the Red5

team about using Haxe as the driving language behind, er, Red5. I

received some very positive comments, but obviously linking the two

will not be an easy process. I do think, though, that having a system

as powerful as Haxe with the capabilities of a media server would be a

phenomenal product, and I feel Red5 could really use Haxe to help make

it a serious contender to Adobes FMS (I feel weird saying that :-D )

 What do you think?

 Lee

To which he replied

That would surely be great !

haXe is already usable for this, so you might give it a try. If you have
any suggestion on how haXe such ease such a thing, please let me know
and I'll look at implementing it.

Nicolas

Maybe we should look deeper into this?

Yeah, I'd been playing with haXe as well, and it IS impressive - I
actually think it's a viable solution for the future (where as before, I
wasn't so sure).

I would think adding it as a possible scripting solution would be a
great idea. I'm not at all sure what that would include to do such a
thing, but I like the idea.

Is anyone currently looking at Haxe? I think it has a lot of potential,
especially as a bolt on product to a larger framework.... Like Red5 for
example!

I've been playing with Haxe and getting some good results, and I like
the fact that you can produce client side Javascript as well as Flash.
Perhaps if this system was to be a driving force behind Red5's scripting
capabilities then we'd already have a big head start in this department.
I'm sure the author Nicolas Cannasse would be more than happy to help
link the two, and I'd be more than happy to help construct the required
FMS components in Haxe...

Anyway, just a thought.
