Hi troyhipolito at yahoo.com <mailto:troyhipolito at yahoo.com>

I would like that oneday, we could install RED5 with an installer,
kinda like installing Flash Com serv MX.exe (the setup) is very
friendly.

Do you think they will make it friendly one day?

I think I will have time in 2 weeks to give it a try. I am swamped with
our client work at ISOinteractive.com . So if I do not get to it please
feel free for any one else to step in.

I do however highly suggest a step by step process to install all
componets. Often the many different aspects are not common sence for the
beginner.

I do remember a sample document that has helped me the past when
creating a service from an application. So for ideas look at:
http://www.shocksites.com/searchSite/results.asp?txtSearch=csreen
<http://www.shocksites.com/searchSite/results.asp?txtSearch=csreen>

I think the RED5 Server installation should be a little more detailed
becuase other services need to be inplace inorder for it to work. So
explaining how to install all the items would be a good think.

  Hey Guys,

We will indeed provide a standalone version of the server once we get

to a more stable release. We are looking into using the Java Service

Wrapper:
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/introduction.html
<http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/introduction.html>

to accomplish deploying Red5 as a Windows Service or Unix Daemon. Tim

Knip has already succeeded in getting it to work on a Windows machine.

Anyway, rest assured that it will be done. In the meantime feel free

to create a .jar of the server and deploy it using the Service Wrapper

per the instructions on their site.

Yes that would be great.

I have 2 projects now that could use the RED5. So if there was stand
alone server version. But I am sure it is a month away correct?

And can it or will it run on a windows 2003 web edition? I guess that is
a silly question I guess there are or will be detailed instructions on
installing it on the red5 site? I will take a peek.

Just FYI

I wanted to add live video events to www.chamberofchat.com
<http://www.chamberofchat.com> so when people were in the chat they
could have a little video window above to see events and such.

The second potential project may be for a event place for weddings to
show them live.

Thanks and great stuff!

First let me say its crazy how fare you have come in such a short time

compile and run red5 using eclipse now i want to know if its possible

to compile a stand alone version for test deployment on another

machine?

Thanks in advance

Thank you very much for your answer, Chris.

I think it's really too early to decide to create a .Net implementation
that matches the Java implementation right now. Because as you said, the
design is not finished yet.

For me my prototype is just for playing with different design ideas, the
RTMP protocol and performance improvements. It's similiar to the Ruby
RTMP test Yannick created. As you said it might be benificial if more
people are working with the RTMP protocol.

For later, I am not sure if creating a version that fully matches the
Java version is the right thing because in .Net things *are* done
differently (e.g. Mina). Also Mono support is vital (at least for me).
But having some kind of Red5 "standard" might be a good idea. I have
already discussed that with Bryan, he said that "each version might need
to implement things differently to optimize for the respective platform,
but the C# version could still be endorsed by the original project".

Since I am also very restricted on time I think it's the best if I just
experiment with my prototype for now and if I find something that could
be helpful for the Java version I will let you guys know. If you want to
upload my test version where Yannicks version is I can send you a zip
file. Putting it into CVS might be too early and not help the progress
of the Java version. I hope you are not too angry that I kind of
"cloned" the Java version. That someday somebody would decode the RTMP
protocol was I dream that I had for some years.

  Hey .Netters,

It's great to see you putting in this effort, and you especially
Bernhard, as you have actually got something working. Well done, this is
a great first step for the .Net implementation!

I just want to point out something that Luke, John and I pretty much
agreed upon in the beginning of this project, and that is that we would
really like to produce something first before we start porting to
different languages. With that said however, I would love to see this
happen, especially if we can keep the two implementations constant.
Another added benefit that Luke just pointed out to me is that we will
have more people working on ironing out the RTMP protocol. This can
only be a good thing for both versions.

In terms of constancy, if we could have the .Net implementation match
the Java API that we are creating, that would be most beneficial. This
would allow end user developers to be able to switch to different
versions without having to change their code. I know that this going to
be difficult to do until we have a more stable Java version, but this
should be our goal in the long run. Some things that we can do now to
accomplish this are as follows.

a.. Use the Spring implementation for .Net:
http://www.springframework.net/ <http://www.springframework.net/>

b.. Use JScript for the Server-side scripting.

c.. Utilize unit testing in .Net

d.. Work closely with the Java developers like Luke, Dominick
Steven, and me.

I think that it's also a great idea to get this .Net project into our
SVN repository. Bernhard, if you are interested in leading the .Net
side of things John and I will be glad to get you set up with commit
rights to the repository. We can also add information on the wiki as
you wish, and to the website, when I can get that done.

I welcome any thoughts and opinions on this from you guys. Please let
me know what you think.

  -Chris

Hey Bernhard, no body is angry by any means!

Far from it in fact. We're excited to see ports of Red5 happen for
sure,

and Chris' main point was that we'd like to see as much continuity as

possible so that developers can have little, if no, impact at all if
they

have to switch from one version to another. I know that under the hood,
C#

would have it's own tools and frameworks, and that's completely

understandable. But I can't see why keeping the public API nearly
identical

should be a problem.

And again, this is getting a little ahead of ourselves ;) I think the

earliest anyone should consider putting real time into the other ports
would

be at .6 of the Java version.
