do not know, i also failed on this one on linux. i haven't tried too

alien. i mean the "alien" command that let you convert debs to rpm and
many more. Just be sure you install also the java virt. machine
separately. rpm -ivh then on the new created rpm should do the trick.
worked on suse. Sould work on other rpm distros as well.
if not, ar -x *.deb, and you will get a data.tar.gz with all the package
contents (and a control.tar.gz that you can forget about unless you want
to learn deb/apt internals).
