Stop tomcat before you move the war file.

I've installed and re-installed the war version of red5. I really like
this method of deployment of red5 on my centos server. But, my problem is,
if I move the red5.war file out of the webapps directory (ie delete or move
it), the red5 folder or the files within disappear, sometimes. Does anyone
know how I can prevent this from happening without having to keep the
red5.war file in the webapps directory. I've gotten it to work before, but
I think it was just cuz of something I can't recall. I'd like to know the
real way to keep everything intact and stable after installation. I'm
running centos with tomcat 5.5.25.
Thanks,
