[Red5] Multiple live streams from a single source, of varying quality.

Hi again,

So, I can see there are ways to provide multiple stream qualities with VOD,
but after a lot of searching I haven't seen anything definitive on how to
provide multiple stream qualities from one original stream.

If I upload a high-quality (1000kbps) stream to Red5, can it then provide a
250kbs and 500kbs stream for viewing?

Or is frame-dropping the best solution I'm going to get?

I guess the different streams would require re-encoding, which is something
Red5 doesn't do?

Is anyone aware of how a big TV company might stream varying quality
streams? Like the BBC might stream a low-quality live stream of the
Olympics, and a medium, and high quality version.

I guess they could have 3 separate encoders all uploading simultaneously.

Anyone thought about or worked on something like this?

Cheers,

-S
