[Red5] JavaScript Application & Server-side Framework?

2 questions.  First, I can get Red5 working on my Intel MacBook.  I can
connect just fine localhost.  I can even write a custom Java method,
recompile via ant server, and then call that method from my Flash file all
like the tutorials show.  I cannot, however, get the JavaScript sample
working.  I copy and pasted the main.js included in the oflaDemo folder, and
copy and pasted the bean XML from the docs, but no dice.  Get a "
NetConnection.Connect.Failed" message.  If I leave commented XML bean info
in the red5-web.xml, I get an invalid app.

Any clue what I'm doing wrong?

Second, anyone written any server-side component framework like Flashcom has
in Java, or any of the scripting languages?
