[Red5] maintaining a user list

Hi,
I've searched the users list for a few hours (and the docs and
tutorials), but can't seem to find an example of maintaining a user
list.
I know I can do this myself by extending the connection methods to add
/ remove from a user list as needed, but there are of course problems
like disconnects that aren't easily taken care of by someone just
getting started (me).
That, and I'm sure this is a problem that has been solved a million
times over by lots of peoples apps.
Could anyone point me to a tutorial or sample app that does this well?
Is there a connection array in red5 somewhere that is already well
maintained (monitored for disconnects) that I could maybe extend to
add the user name?
I'm learning allot at the same time, so code examples would be the
most helpful, but even pointing me to the right methods to extend
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Eric
