It's both! We are too cool for Tomcat, and we also can run in Tomcat  
or any J2EE server for that matter. Depends on how you set it up. You  
could also switch out the default Jetty server for Tomcat and run it  
as a stand alone like that. Red5 is setup to be very modular.

You will need to provide more details here. Did you try running one of  
the red5 scripts? EIther red5.sh or red5.bat depending on your OS. Any  
errors thrown?
