No support for H264 yet in Red5 ; people are working on it.
Meanwhile you can transcode from your proprietary format using ffmpeg etc to sorensen spark "FLV" and then broadcast that to Red5.
A message about that :

Hi,
I've been working in the video surveillance industry for several years, specifically with ip cameras.
As many of you may or may not be aware, they all use ActiveX controls for mpeg4 and audio support. Which means no linux, no mac, no firefox, etc. Now that flash has h264 I'm planning to transcode the live streams into h264 and use flash to display the live audio/video content from the surveillance cameras. My hope is that this will allow anybody with flash 9 (windows, linux, mac) regardless of browser view the cameras. I know for recordings, using the mp4 file format that I should be able to use flash easily. But for the live view I'm assuming I'd need something like red 5 to handle live streaming. As I understand it, red 5 version 0.7.1 should have h264 streaming support.
I'm a decent programmer, so I can make modifications/additions etc to the project. I'm mostly wondering if I'm on the right track, if red 5 is the right project for what I'm trying to do, etc. I would rather not have to write netscape plugins and compile them for each os and write an activex, and tehn code sign them all etc, if I can have flash do the same thing.
