Subject: [Red5] Multiplayer Game using RTMP
Hey all,
I'm building a real-time strategy game in flash. Something along the
lines of an 8 player game of Asteroids. There are 8 players in each
instance, and n number of instances based on how popular it gets.
I have all of my ducks in a row, except one (a really big one too).
I've been doing quite a bit of research, and I can't decide if I should
use RTMP or XML Sockets.
Red5 is an amazing server for streaming and publishing, but it's main
focus as far as I can tell is not syncing actionscript objects between
clients. I mean, it obviously can, but is it the best scalable solution?
Could I have say... 50,000 users playing simultaneously?
So someone please shed some light on this topic. Should I use XML
Sockets, RTMP, or write my own lightweight socket server, or something I
haven't even thought of?
Thanks,
Nate
