Are you able to load your devices and record video with the publisher?
 
And you can only get green lights when on the local machine?
 
Can put the server on a public IP?

Yeah, it seems like it's connecting - so the problem is - with the
publisher demo i don't see any video, with the ball demo i don't see any
synchronisation of the logos when moved in different browser windows, i
can't connect from a remote machine to that server

Sorry if it's been asked, but when trying the demos that you are using
the correct rtmp address? Its easy to forget.

i have 9.0.115.0 <http://9.0.115.0/>  installed on the server and
locally, too... so why would that make a Netconnection.connect fail? Is
this a known issue? Seems a bit worrying if Red5 doesn't work with the
latest flash player?

There will not be a log message in the default config until somebody
either publishes or subscribes to a stream.

5. i moved everything - jars, source, configs....
 
The thing is - when i remote onto the server and run the examples they
don't work... so it doesn't work locally on the server nevermind trying
to connect to it from a remote machine 
 
connecting to the publisher example gave a result of
Netconnection.success... no logs in the log file and no stream being
played... just says a connection was established int he client view...
but no logs still (should i be seeing any?)

Have you tried using the 'publisher' application?
It has a full display of netconnection and netstream messages you can
watch as you connect. 
 
I guess I don't have the full picture.
1. Windows.
2. Red5 is started.
3. IIS or Apache installed?
4. Windows firewall?
5. Did you move the jars for your app, or just the source?

it runs fine on my local machine - the one i'm developing on. It's just
when i've gone to put the webapp online i've seen this issue on the

katopz - when the connected icon shows connected it's green,  when the
connected icon shows disconnected it's yellow 
 
but nothing happens at al - no chat is sent, balls don't sync etc. etc.
 
Andy - tried removing the asterisk from one of the webapps just in
case... still nothing
 
This is getting really frustrating.... i'm clearly doing something
wrong... but what?

If you are on linux you must run red5 using 
$ ant server
in red5 folder.
The init.d start up don't work for me, perhaps u must use "nohup". 
And pointing to the server ip like rtmp://192.168.0.5/oflaDemo can help
Do you have the apps in webapps folder?
