[Red5] Red5 and PHP - newbie

Sorry, I didn't get what you mean. But maybe my question wasn't clear.
To put it straight: if I have a flash app that connects to a Red5
server, and/or if I have a flash app on a Red5 server that users can
access through a html page, will this app be able to do requests to a
php file natively, or do I need to run an Apache server aside? I think I
can do the same thing that my php files do in java, the only thing is
that I am fairly new to java - but willing to learn. Will the use of php
and Apache slow down significantly my server, compared to the use of java?
Thanks in advance,
Cyrill
PS: is the 0.8 version of Red5 useable for "real" projects? Or is it an
"on-work" version?
