Not sure if you follow the papervision list but just incase I am sure
plane slices would be something to experiment with in sandy as well
as in pv, see quote from my post there.

Re: [Papervision3D] 3D map, I really need help please.
Enrique
I have dug up the book with Arsis 3D slice engine in, and played with
it earlier this week and put your model in, quite roughly (the image
needs a bit more work), the way I have structured it you could easily
implement solid face lighting by applying a setRGB colour to the inner
['angle'+i] movieclips in relation to the light source.

(fla also there.)
For your requirements this solution might be fine and implementing in
papervision may add overheads. But it struck me that more generally
rather than using this engine, the slices could just be papervision
meshes or planes fed from the frames of the buildings movie; allowing
seamless intergration, and obviously this approach suit rolling
landscapes well, espeically if used with masking of an arial photo.
When I have some time I may try an implementation of something like a
Slicematerial3D for use in papervision.
Seems strange that no one has considered using slices in papervision
(has anyone) and I think slices should for some modelling, produce
faster better results/movement, bear in mind that enrique's model is
not the best type of shape for a slice engine since it has smooth edges.
PS hopefully arsis won't mind me posting the fla based on code in the
book since the book is old and I have tweeked the code and created my
own model (based on Enrique).
Cheers
Justin
