Actually you don't really need to learn HaXe. Stay on board :)
You can still write the Flash app in AS1 through 3 and run it on SwHX.
The backend libraries are written in HaXe, as in SW3 you interface with
the backend through an Actionscript API.
If I understand Edwin correctly, this is where Screenweaver X is
heading.
If you need more backend than SwHX supplies out of the box you can
easily extend it using HaXe. It is not a far jump from AS2 and much
closer than c/c++ and friends.

I think I'll be getting off just before the HaXe express.
Screenweaver is a great tool, but I'm not in the market to learn HaXe.
