[swfmill] Installing Swfmill on Fedora Core 2 - Configure Error

Hello,

I'm trying to compile Swfmill on Fedora Core 2.  The configure script fails with the following:

Package freetype2 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `freetype2.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'freetype2' found
configure: error: Package requirements (freetype2) were not met.
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

I have the 'freetype2.pc' file on my system in the following location:
/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc

Can someone please explain how I can alter the configure script to find this file?
